6 to 9 months before travel for popular destinations, especially if you are traveling during peak season. Flights are typically best priced 3 to 6 months out, but accommodations at in-demand properties in places like the Maldives or Amalfi Coast book out earlier. Do not wait for flight prices to drop if hotels are limited.
Strongly recommended if you are spending significant money on flights and hotels. Travel insurance protects you from cancellation due to illness, natural disasters, or family emergencies. Many travel credit cards include basic coverage. Read the policy before assuming you are covered.
There is no rule. One week is most common. Some couples take an extended trip for a once in a lifetime experience. Others do a short trip immediately and a larger one later when schedules allow. Factor in recovery time after the wedding. Most couples are more tired than they expect the week after.
Renew immediately. Routine processing takes 6 to 8 weeks and expedited takes 2 to 3 weeks. Many countries require your passport to be valid for at least 6 months after your travel date, not just your return date. Check entry requirements for every country on your itinerary.
